“Dignity”

I had a sad, frustrating, miserable life
Barely scraping by, couldn’t find a good wife
Tried to live for free, didn’t want to work
Asked for a handout—got treated like a jerk

I blamed everybody, everything—just not me
“It’s not my fault,” they taught me, you see
“Just vote for me, I’ll give you all the stuff”—
But I’d had enough of those lies and bluff

Then Blackbeard World burst into my view
Said, "You can have it all—just start with you"
Take responsibility, light the fire and learn
Be productive—then just churn and burn!

Now I’m living my dreams, and doing it in style
Didn’t happen overnight—it took a while
I’ve got self-respect, and I like what I see
I chase my dreams, and live with dignity

Don’t believe the lies they teach you in school
You can build a great life without all their rules
Make your own way—go start your own dash
You ain’t gotta be a victim—you can earn that cash

Spread your wings and prepare for flight
Let go of the hate, turn loose of the fight
Break the chains, the locks on your mind
Learn to think for yourself—begin to unwind!

Then you’ll be living your dreams, doing it in style
It won’t come easy—it takes a while
You’ll have self-respect and like what you see
When you build your life and live with dignity

No more excuses—start making a plan
Find the few who’ll tell you, “Yes, you can.”
A whole new life is waiting for you
Live your dream life—or fail. You choose.

So choose to live your dreams, and do it in style
Strap in tight—‘cause it takes a while
Earn self-respect, 'til you love what you see
Then you’ll have all the toys—and live with Dignity!
